Michaelhouse invites all applications for entry into 2027 and beyond. Registration fees are waived for 2033 and beyond. Registrations for Grade 8 2026 closed on 7 February 2025. Any registrations received for Grade 8, 9 and 10 2025 and 2026 will be placed on our waitlist. A Club for Life:

Michaelhouse is non-sectarian in its admissions policy welcoming young applicants who will thrive in our unique environment from all backgrounds. Entry into E Block (Grade 8) is based on previous academic performance, a personal interview with the Rector or Deputy Rector, recent school reports, and a confidential recommendation from the applicant’s current Headmaster.
Applications for Grade 8 can be registered any time from birth, with registration encouraged by the end of the Grade 6 year. Registered boys and their families are invited for a tour of our campus and an interview during Grade 6 to experience the school firsthand.
Admission to D and C Blocks (Grades 9 and 10) is possible if space allows and is based on the same criteria. Michaelhouse also invites registrations for 2032 and beyond, with no registration fee required. Please note that applications for Grade 8 entry in 2026 received after 7 February 2025 will be added to our waitlist.

Fees and levies are invoiced in ten equal instalments commencing December to September. Debit orders are a prerequisite.

Entrance Procedure
Boys are admitted to D and C Blocks (Grades 9 and 10) only if a place becomes available. Entry is determined by previous academic performance, a personal interview with the Rector, a copy of the most recent school report and a confidential report from the applicant’s Headmaster.
Registration may be completed at any time from the applicant’s birth onwards, preferably by no later than the end of his Grade 6 year. During the Grade 6 year the registered applicant and his parents are required to visit Michaelhouse for a tour of the School and an interview with the Rector.
Applications received after 7 February 2024 for Grade 8 2025 will be placed on our wait list.
ScholarshipsScholarships are available to exceptional E Block (Grade 8) applicants. These are awarded for the full five years, contingent upon maintaining an acceptable level of performance and involvement.
Scholarship Opportunities at Michaelhouse
Michaelhouse offers a range of scholarships to support boys of outstanding ability entering E Block (Grade 8), with awards available for academics, sport, music, art, and drama. Scholarships are valid for the duration of a boy’s career at Michaelhouse (five years, or three years for certain Music Scholarships), but are contingent on the recipients maintaining acceptable levels of performance and involvement.
Scholarship Awards
- Major Open Scholarship: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (Independent school candidates)
- Minor Open Scholarship: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (Independent school candidates)
- Closed Scholarships: Up to 30% of tuition and boarding (Traditional feeder school candidates)
- Major Trust Scholarship: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (State school candidates)
- Minor Trust Scholarship: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (State school candidates)
- All-Rounder Scholarships: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (All candidates)
- Music Scholarships: Up to 50% of tuition and boarding (All candidates)
- Sports Scholarships: Up to 75% of tuition and boarding (All candidates)
- Arts Exhibitions (Drama & Art): Up to 15% of tuition and boarding (All candidates)
Note: State school candidates must have attended their current school for at least two years before applying to Michaelhouse. Scholarship values are fixed for the duration awarded.
Scholarship Criteria
Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria for registered applicants:
- Academic Scholarships: Candidates for the academic scholarship exam should achieve an aggregate of 85% or higher at the end of Grade 6.
- Sports Scholarships: Merit-based sports scholarships are offered to boys demonstrating exceptional skill and a willingness to be coached. Boys are invited to be assessed based on their highest level of representation for a team sport, and their commitment, and sportsmanship across multiple sports.
- Music Scholarships: Candidates should have reached Grade 4 (UNISA/ABRSM/Trinity) in voice or an instrument. Scholarships are awarded based on instrumental competence and a commitment to musical growth.
- Arts Scholarships: Drama or Creative Arts candidates should submit a teacher’s letter of motivation and examples of recent creative work.
- All-Rounder Scholarships: These scholarships recognize boys with well-rounded abilities across academics, sport, and cultural pursuits, and qualification is by being invited to attend two or more scholarship assessments at Michaelhouse.
